The three year project is fully funded by KOICA as a grant, and will be implemented by UNOPS in partnership with the Ministry of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine. The agreement on the project was signed by Sanjay Mathur, UNOPS Regional Director for Asia and Lee Dong Ku, the KOICA Resident Representative for Sri Lanka last week. The signing took place during a two-day official visit of the UNOPS Regional Director to the country. The Korea-Sri Lanka Friendship Hospital in Matara is an important symbol of this commitment from the Korean people, and we are excited to commence this new phase of work for the hospital.” The project will invest over 750 million rupees for the new construction and renovation work in the hospital. This investment will help to increase the bed strength of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology (OB/GYN) and Neonatology departments of the Matara Hospital by 100, while also providing new staff facilities.
